Dr. Jacobs
Dr. Jacobs, DVM
Dr. Jacobs is grateful to be returning to in home veterinary care. She is excited to be able to meet new patients and help families in caring for their beloved pets. From a young age, Dr. Jacobs was interested in medicine and helping animals. Her dream was to become an animal doctor after learning about Dr. Doolittle and James Herriot. Her mother was an in home care nurse and she grew up on stories about her mother’s patients and saw the benefits of in home care first hand. In high school, she began volunteering at the local shelter and participated in a work externship at a local animal clinic. Pursuing a pre-vet track, she elected to go to UT Chattanooga as she also had a strong interested in rehabilitation. Dr. Jacobs transferred to UT Knoxville to complete her undergrad and during this time started working at the humane society. A summer spent with kittens confirmed her goal to become a vet. She adopted a cat with kidney issues named Lelu after helping raise her kittens. Dr. Jacobs obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UT Knoxville. During this time, she was the co-president of the vet school’s cat club. Her areas of interest included dermatology, parasitology, internal medicine, and rehabilitation. Her senior year she was recognized with an award from Hill’s nutrition. After graduation, she moved to Charlotte, NC and joined a small animal practice. This is where she met her second foster failure- a parvo puppy named Reznor. They participated in reading programs for kids until a battle with glaucoma caused blindness. An affinity towards advocating for dogs with disabilities emerged. A bit later, a “behaviorally challenged” young rescue dog named Helmut was next added to her family. His struggle with behavioral issues sparked a focus in this area. Dr. Jacobs started a small animal mobile practice covering the Charlotte NC area. She treasured the relationships that this allowed and felt it was the best way to see the deep bond and love pets bring to families. Seeing the need to help her patients that had mobility issues she furthered her studies at NC and UT to obtain a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) credential. Wanting to be closer to her family, she returned to Tennessee. She began working at a local shelter and loved seeing pets getting adopted into families. This work also showed the need for good preventative care. She recently spent some time at a senior dog sanctuary growing her love for rescue pets, seniors, and rehabilitation. Dr. Jacobs currently lives on a small farm in Hartsville TN with a dog named Silas and some chickens- B’easy, Bexley, Ksenia, Wednesday, and Xylia. She enjoys spending time with family, going antique shopping- especially for dishes, gardening and baking.
